The deadline is tomorrow,
and the new client is calling tonight.

Filing season is when the phone rings most and when nobody in the office can pick it up. The first-time filer calls at eight in the evening, the night before the deadline.

A call the night before the deadline

While every desk is buried in filings,
this is how it goes.

Not a customer case — an example of how the product answers once this trade’s price list and safety rules are loaded. Amounts are typical published ranges; what is actually quoted comes from the price list the accountant enters.

When it is missed

A missed call
is written down nowhere.

A new small-business client is worth the return plus years of bookkeeping, and they arrive in the fortnight when every desk is buried. The caller who reaches voicemail files with software or with the firm down the street. The dangerous version is worse: someone picks up and says “you probably don’t need to file this quarter”, and that sentence becomes the penalty.

What it will not do

The things a machine
must not say in this trade.

The four below are not settings you switch on and off. They are blocked from the start when the Accountants & tax answering is built. Anything that touches them is not answered — it goes to a person.

  • It never takes a tax position.Whether an expense is deductible, whether you qualify for a scheme, whether you owe — these are the accountant’s calls after seeing the records. The question is recorded and passed on.
  • It never rules on a filing deadline or an obligation.“You probably don’t need to file this time” is the sentence that becomes a penalty. Deadline questions are left as a check item for the accountant to answer.
  • It never adjusts the fee.It quotes the base fee schedule the accountant loaded. Adjustments for industry and volume are set after the records have been seen.
  • It never discloses another client.Who files with the firm, what they earned and what they paid are never answered, to anyone.
